Adult & Teen Division

Students may explore different forms of dance including Modern, Musical Theater Jazz, when available, and Ballet. Classes are geared toward the recreational or beginning dancer.

Jazz
While there are many styles of Jazz, WCB will place its focus on more contemporary forms in its regular curriculum, and offer periodic master classes to introduce more variation of the dance form including Swing, Chicago Style, Bossa Nova, and Free Jazz, sometimes known as Avante Garde.

Tap
Divided into three levels, and four if mandated by enrollment and skill levels, each student will be taught the basics of tap dancing combinations and develop rhythm and footwork skills.  Tap can be quite challenging and rewarding and resembles few other dance forms.

Flamenco
Flamenco is a genuine Spanish art form.  Rhythms from Northern Africa and South America have influenced this diverse art form as well.  As a result, Flamenco is considered worldwide to be one of the most culturally rich expressions of folklore.  Flamenco is offered to beginning dance students (Beginning Flamenco is open to students with no previous dance training) through advanced students.

Special Movement

This class is designed especially for developmentally and/or physically challenged children and is offered periodically.

Washington Contemporary Ballet

Dancers 11 years and older, with appropriate training, represent WCB in public and private performances. Students must maintain the required classes for their curriculum level, plus Enhancement and Master Classes and attend all company rehearsals and performances. Dancers are selected for the company by invitation only.

WCB Scholarship Information

A WCB scholarship provides financial assistance to those dancers who qualify, based on need, talent, and the ability to comply with school policies. All students are eligible to apply and the process is non-discriminatory.

Selection will be based on a combination of the above criteria, the scholarship budget, and whether or not the student applying has been enrolled in the maximum number of classes and workshops available to them in the past.

If you are interested in applying, you may obtain an application form in the office.
